The tide is changing.
FOOD AND BODY FREEDOM IS POSSIBLE!
Hi! I’m Kate.
Eating disorders suck the joy out of life. So does doubting yourself and giving away your energy to people who aren’t invested in your wellbeing.
I help women ditch self-criticism, people pleasing, and the worries that keep them up at night. You’re sick of the way it impacts your presence when you meet new people. You’re bummed out always thinking something is wrong with you. You’re tired of feeling tired. You want to show up in a room and have confidence radiate out of the way you walk, talk, and feel in your skin.
I started SWELL because I’ve been there and have the chops to help you. Let’s turn the tide together.

Living with complex trauma can feel like carrying invisible wounds that affect every aspect of your life. If you find yourself struggling with overwhelming emotions that seem to come out of nowhere, difficulty trusting others or forming close relationships, or feeling disconnected from your own body and emotions, you're not alone.
Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns of hypervigilance, emotional numbness, or intense shame, often accompanied by challenges like sleep disturbances, chronic anxiety, or a persistent sense that something is fundamentally wrong with them.
-
Many of my clients struggle with feeling like they can't relax or have a normal relationship with food, and they worry deeply about how this pattern is affecting their children and family relationships.
The constant self-criticism and preoccupation with food and body image can make it incredibly difficult to be present at work or with the people you love most. Something as simple as how your clothes fit can trigger a cascade of negative thoughts and emotions that derail your entire day.
These struggles with food and body image can feel all-consuming, getting in the way of the fulfilling, peaceful life you want to create for yourself and your loved ones.

Are you exhausted from the endless cycle of starting new diets, losing weight, then gaining it all back (and more)? You might feel trapped in a pattern of restriction followed by guilt-filled "binges," constantly battling food rules that dictate your mood and self-worth. Many of my clients come to me feeling defeated by years of yo-yo dieting, confused about what their body actually needs, and frustrated by how much mental energy they spend thinking about food, calories, and their next meal.
The diet mentality can leave you feeling like a failure when the truth is that diets are designed to fail. Through compassionate diet recovery work and intuitive eating coaching, we'll help you break free from the restrict-binge cycle and rediscover your body's natural hunger and fullness cues. Together, we'll challenge diet culture messages, heal your relationship with food, and help you find peace and trust with eating - so you can finally stop obsessing about food and start living your life.
-
Do you spend countless minutes scrutinizing yourself in the mirror, picking apart every perceived flaw? You might find yourself avoiding social events, intimate moments, or activities you once enjoyed because you feel uncomfortable in your own skin. Many of my clients describe feeling trapped by constant mental chatter about their appearance - comparing themselves to others, obsessing over photos, or feeling like their worth is tied to how they look.
This relentless focus on your body can leave you exhausted and missing out on life's meaningful moments.
Through compassionate body image work, we'll explore the roots of these critical thoughts and help you develop a more peaceful relationship with your body, quieting that harsh inner voice and reclaiming the confidence to fully engage in life.
-
Living with autoimmune conditions or chronic pain can feel like your body has turned against you. You might find yourself constantly vigilant about flare-ups, exhausted from managing unpredictable symptoms, or frustrated by how pain has changed your relationships and daily activities. Many of my clients describe feeling disconnected from their bodies, caught between needing to push through and desperately needing rest, often accompanied by the grief of losing the life they once had.
The stress of managing chronic illness can create a cycle where emotional tension and physical symptoms feed off each other, leaving you feeling trapped and overwhelmed.
Through somatic experiencing therapy, we'll work together to help your nervous system find greater regulation and resilience. This gentle, body-based approach helps you reconnect with your body's natural healing capacity, process the stress and trauma of living with illness, and develop tools to better manage both pain and the emotional challenges that come with it.
-
You might find yourself avoiding situations that trigger your anxiety, constantly seeking reassurance from others, trying to control situations, or feeling physically exhausted from the tension, rapid heartbeat, and shallow breathing that comes with persistent worry. Many of my clients describe feeling like they're living in a state of constant alert, anticipating the worst-case scenario and struggling to be present in their own lives.
Anxiety can make even simple decisions feel overwhelming and rob you of the spontaneity and joy you once experienced.
We’ll use evidence-based anxiety treatment to help you understand your unique anxiety patterns and develop practical tools to manage worry and panic. You'll learn techniques to calm your nervous system, challenge anxious thoughts, and gradually reclaim the activities and experiences that anxiety has taken from you.

The fear of being left behind or rejected can drive every relationship and decision you make. You might notice patterns of people-pleasing that leave you exhausted, difficulty setting boundaries because you're afraid others will leave, or an overwhelming fear of being alone that drives you to stay in relationships that don't serve you. Others find themselves doing the opposite - holding people at arm's length, convincing themselves they don't need anyone, or sabotaging connections before others have a chance to leave first. Many of my clients describe feeling like there's a scared, lonely child inside them that never learned they were worthy of love and belonging just as they are.
These abandonment wounds often show up as intense reactions to perceived rejection, difficulty trusting that people will stay, or a deep-seated belief that you're somehow "too much" or "not enough." Whether you cling too tightly or push people away, the core wound is the same - a protection against the pain of being left.
Using inner child work and nervous system healing, we'll help you reconnect with and heal the parts of you that learned to protect yourself through hypervigilance or self-abandonment. Together, we'll work on reparenting those wounded parts, building secure attachment within yourself, and creating the safety and self-compassion you needed but didn't receive.
I know finding a new therapist can be a challenging process and you might not know what to expect. Finding a good fit is more important to me than locking you in to working together. If you’ve read to this point and want to learn more, I offer free 20 minute video calls to see if we’re a good fit. Feel free to reach out! I’d love to chat with you.
Why “SWELL?”
Surfing perfectly captures my approach to mental health and healing. I've always been drawn to the calm power of the ocean because it has this incredible way of making my problems feel smaller - putting life into perspective in a way that nothing else can.
We have to watch the waves, respect the power of nature, and accept that we're not always in control. But we can learn how to surf the ups and downs of whatever comes our way.
An ocean swell is the long, rolling motion of waves that have traveled beyond their generating storm. It's what helps create the best waves for surfing.
As a metaphor, swell represents so much of what we experience in life and therapy: the overwhelming forces we face, life's natural fluctuations, the deep creative processes of healing, and our journey into the unknown. Swell symbolizes both the chaos we sometimes feel and the hope that carries us forward.
Just like learning to read and ride the ocean's swells, taking care of our mental health is about learning to navigate life's waves with greater skill, balance, and grace - honoring both the power of what we're facing and our own resilience in riding it through.
